Walt Lyons

Dr. Walter A. Lyons received his Ph.D. (1970) from the University of Chicago under Prof. Tetsuya Fujita, who pioneered the study of mesoscale weather systems - the scale that most impacts everyday life. This includes lightning-producing storms.
Dr. Lyons was instrumental in establishing the R*SCAN U.S. National Lightning Detection Network. He has served as a university professor, forensic meteorologist, science writer and video producer, and contractor to such U.S. agencies as NASA and the National Science Foundation.
He is a Fellow and Past President of the American Meteorological Society.
